Artisanns Nest was born on the foundation of Sustainability and Zero Waste. Collecting all the preconsumer high quality internationally tested fabrics from furnishing brands like D Decor, factory houses and small shops which discard their out of design fabric rolls/ catalogs into landfills. These fabrics dominantly consist of Out of production/ Out of Design catalogs, fabric rolls, sample pieces and curtains which have been quality tested and certified. They are new unused textile fabrics which no longer serve any purpose to the fabric vendors. However we believe there is no reason for these fabrics to be discarded and thrown into landfills ruthlessly harming our environment. We have been actively trying to collect, upcycle and save them. We have successfully saved more than 50000kg of preconsumed fabrics till date. Artisanns Nest was established in Singapore in 2015 with one segment of handmade notebooks of two sizes. They were fabric covered with preconsumed fabrics that were discarded by the upholstery brands being out of design fabrics with the arrival of new collection annually. By end of 2016 notebooks were a great hit and were selling in 15 stores all across Singapore. Now there was a need to expand. By end of 2017 a proper workshop was set up in New Delhi, India and then we expanded our collection to home decor and lifestyle products. We essentially use all the fabrics that are left over pieces, dead stock, fabric rolls no more in production, out of design catalogs which are ISO Certified, have crossed minimum 10000 martindale and are flame retardant. 85% of them also are Oeko Tex certified and are Global Recycle Standard certified. These fabrics come to us in discarded form and undergo a thorough clean up and are segregated according to their specifications and sizes into various products. Martindale 20000 and above are used for beanbags, 8000 + martindale for the cushions and so on. They are patched together aesthetically to create beautiful products. Our main foundation has been sustainability and zero waste. Right from first step to packaging and dispatching. It is our constant effort to minimize wastage and use every bit of fabric we receive from the factories and warehouses. These preconsumed fabric pieces would end up in landfills or burnt in incinerators harming our environment in many different ways. We have saved more than 1 lakh kg of fabric from going into landfills since our inception. It is our constant effort to reduce carbon emissions into the environment. From using solar panels in our workshop to minimizing usage of water. From creating packaging material from our fabric scraps to making buffer cushions from all the scraps thrown on the floor. We currently import all preconsumed catalogs of more than 500 kg from Singapore annually and almost 20000-25000 kg of fabrics come from various Indian Factories and design houses.
